Meal Plans

What Meal Plans do you offer?

We offer a variety of meal plans to meet your on campus dining needs. Check out our Meal Plan page for a full list of offerings.

What type of Meal Plan is recommended?

We have a variety of meal plans to meet your needs! Depending on your class year, where you live, and how much you are on campus, our recommendations may vary. Be sure to use our filter and sort functions to help choose your plan. If you still need help choosing a plan, contact our office or check out our meal plan brochure!

How can I purchase a Meal Plan?

You can purchase your meal plan by calling or visiting us on campus at SMU Dining Offices, 2nd floor Loyola Building, 923 Robie St. Halifax, NS B3H 3C3.

Are Meal Plans required?

All students that are living in the Loyola and Vanier residences are required to purchase a meal plan.
While a meal plan purchase is not required if living in Rice Residence, many students take advantage of the convenience and value a meal plan has to offer.

What are FLEX dollars?

FLEX Dollars are accepted as payment at all on SMUDining locations. Our meal plans each have a component of FLEX Dollars, in addition to the Fresh Food Company Dockside Dining Hall entries, loaded right on your Student ID card, so there is no need to carry around cash or another card! FLEX Dollars can be reloaded at anytime for your ease and convenience. There is no minimum balance, over draft fees, or hassles!

May I purchase extra Flex Dollars?

Absolutely! All meal plan holders may purchase additional tax exempt FLEX Dollars by visiting the SMU Dining Office, located on the 2nd floor of Loyola. Contact us if you have more questions about FLEX dollars!

What if I want to change my Meal Plan?

You can change your Meal Plan if you find one is not meeting your needs. Please visit the SMU Dining Office, located on the 2nd floor of Loyola. We are open Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm. You can also give us a call if you have any further questions: 902-420-5599.

How do I get into the Dockside Dining Hall once I have purchased my Meal Plan?

Your activated Saint Mary’s University Student Card (or your SMUdent ID) is your pass. Remember, you must get your card activated when you purchase your meal plan by going to the Aramark Food Services office on 2nd floor Loyola. Once activated, your SMUdent ID becomes very valuable, so treat it like cash and don’t leave home without it.

To gain entry for “all you care to eat” dining at the Dockside Dining Hall, simply present your SMUdent ID to the cashier at the door when you enter the Dockside dining hall for entry. Depending on your plan, each time you dine at the Fresh Food Company Dockside Dining Hall, one meal will be deducted from your total.  The one exception to this is the freedom plan which gives you unlimited access, all day, every day.

One caveat: No one other than you may use your SMUdent ID. We cannot transfer cards to others, and if someone is found with an ID that is not their own, our cashier will confiscate the ID and bring it to Residence Security for your protection.

Can I carry meals over to the next semester?

No, all meals expire at the end of each week, and all meal plans end at the end of the Academic year in April.

Can I treat a friend to a meal?

Absolutely! Your friends and family are always welcome at our Dockside Dining Hall! Just know that each SMUdent is responsible for their guests.

You have 3 ways of sharing your amazing dining experience:

1. Guest Meal Passes: Each meal plan offers 4 guest passes per term, and will let you treat a guest to a meal in the Dining Hall.

2. Pay with FLEX Dollars: You can use your flex dollars to pay the rate at the door.

3. Pay with cash at the door: You or your guest may pay the rate at the door with cash only (no debit or credit)

Door rates can be found on our meal plan brochure!
